How it All Began...
Imagine losing your ability to communicate with the outside world. You try to speak and the words won’t come out and when they do, everyone around you can’t understand you. Many people experience this on a daily basis. It wasn’t until Noam Chomsky proposed in 1957, that speaking and understanding speech is a far more complex concept than anyone could possibly imagine. This created a movement away from psychologists, medical doctors, and linguists and towards clinicians who specifically helped rehabilitate and assist those who struggle with communication. This is how the field of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences began.
